LVL lash lift: what happens, and how to look after it

If you curl your lashes every morning, or never feel finished without mascara, an LVL lash lift could save you a lot of time. Here is what it involves.

What LVL means

LVL stands for length, volume and lift. It works on your own natural lashes: no extensions, no glue and nothing to fall out. Your lashes are lifted from the root so they sweep upwards, then tinted darker, which makes them look longer and fuller.

What happens in the chair

  1. Your lashes are cleansed so they are free of make-up and oil.
  2. A small silicone shield is placed on each eyelid, and your lashes are smoothed up onto it.
  3. A lifting lotion is applied and left to work, then a setting lotion fixes the new shape.
  4. Your lashes are tinted, cleaned off and finished with a nourishing treatment.

Your eyes are closed the whole time, and most people find it very relaxing. Allow an hour and a quarter to an hour and a half.

Before your appointment

  • Come without eye make-up if you can, or allow a few minutes for it to be removed.
  • If you wear contact lenses, bring your glasses or your lens case, as lenses need to come out.
  • Tell me when you book if you have had a reaction to a lash or brow tint before, or if you have an eye condition. A patch test may be needed before your treatment.

Aftercare for the first 24 hours

The new shape is still settling for the first day, so for 24 hours:

  • Keep your lashes dry: no swimming, steam rooms or very hot showers.
  • No mascara, and try not to rub your eyes.
  • Sleep on your back if you can, rather than with your face in the pillow.

After that, carry on as normal. Many people find they do not need mascara at all, and if you do wear it, a little goes a long way.

How long it lasts

A lift usually lasts six to eight weeks. It does not drop overnight: as your lashes naturally shed and new ones grow through, the lifted ones are gradually replaced. Most clients rebook at around the eight week mark.

You will find the price on the price list.
